Design range of the damper of a T-stub damage-controlled system

Design range of the damper of a T-stub damage-controlled system Accepted 31 July 2019 abstract Among passive energy dissipation methods, beam-to-column connection damage-controlled systems are more strongly influenced by the strength and stiffness ratios of adjacent members than conventional brace- and stud-type methods. This difference is due to the positional characteristics of the damper, in contrast with those of the conventional methods. Nevertheless, studies on the practical design of beam-to-column connection damage-controlled systems remain insufficient. The purpose of this study is to find the optimal design range of a steel seismic damper for a high-performing T-stub damage-controlled system. To achieve this, a full-scale quasi-static cyclic loading experiment was performed to analyze improved load-carrying performance of the T-stub damage-controlled systems. The results found that refocusing the seismic loads distributed along the con-nections in the structural frame on to the damper can isolate the vibrations and maximize passive energy dissi-pation, thus providing earthquake resistance. The results also were utilized to design the moment connections to study the transfer of bending moments from beam to column. Furthermore, to derive the optimal design of the seismic damper, an analysis model capable of simulating the real-time behavior of various T-stub damage-controlled systems under heavy vibrational loads was developed. A multi-parameter analysis was then con-ducted to determine damper-to-beam strength and stiffness ratios and damper-to-column strength ratios. The results further helped in analyzing the plastic strain energy of each element in the connections to determine whether the connections could act as a damage-controlled system. منبع 10.1016@j.jcsr.2019.105719.pdf-

In the slotted SPSW, a steel plate with inclined slotted holes is sandwiched in between two external concrete panels which provide lateral restraint to achieve stable energy dissipation under cyclic reversal loading. Theoretical analysis and finite element monotonic pushover analyses are conducted to investigate the stability of slotted SPSWs. Global buckling and local buckling resistances of slotted SPSWs are determined. Some key parameters, such as the gap between steel plate and concrete panels, bolt spacing, width of steel strips, and steel panel slenderness, are investigated through numerical analyses. The shear force and lateral drift behavior of the slotted SPSW is found to be affected by the physical gap between the concrete panels and inner steel plate. The minimumconcrete panel thickness for providing the effective lateral restraint to prevent buckling failure of the inner steel plate is determined based on the bolt spacing. 10.1016_J.JCSR.2015.10.002-Stability-of-buckling-restrained-steel-plate-shear-walls-with-inclined-slots-Theoretical-analysis-and-design-recommendations.pdf-

GIS-based system for sight distance analysis of highways

GIS-based system for sight distance analysis of highways María Castro a*, José A. Anta b, Luis Iglesias c, José A. Sánchez d Abstract Analysing the distance visible to a driver on a highway is important for traffic safety, especially in manoeuvres such as emergency stops, when passing another vehicle, or when vehicles cross at intersections. Software that calculates highway distances visible to a driver has been developed. This software is supported by a Geographic Information System (GIS) and can use a trajectory defined by points obtained with a GNSS receiver instead of relying on project information. The software includes specific tools for studying shortcomings in 3D alignment, mainly divings. In this article, the software and its application to a case study are presented. The results are compared with those obtained using an existing validated procedure Keywords: Highways and roads; Design; Sight distances; Geographic information systems; Terrain models. 10.1061-(ASCE)CP.1943-5487.0000317 (1).pdf-
