Performance-Based Seismic Design In Real Life: The Good, The Bad And The Ugly

Performance-Based Seismic Design In Real Life: The Good, The Bad And The Ugly Dimitrios Vamvatsikosa a School of Civil Engineering, National Technical University, Athens, Greece Keywords: Performance, seismic design, hazard, risk, behavior factor TRAILER Designing a structure to deliver the desired performance under the uncertainties of hazard, materials and questionable models, is largely the Holy Grail of earthquake engineering. A number of methods have appeared in the literature claiming to offer this coveted prize, yet, in my very own opinion, they may require heavy computations or strict assumptions, sometimes offering a useful but partial solution, perhaps delivering something other than what the user expected, or even failing to deliver altogether. This does not necessarily detract from the usefulness of each method, but it does certainly mean that some differentiation among approaches should be maintained, despite all of them being bundled underneath the moniker of “performance-based”. Therefore, due to my heavy exposure to spaggeti westerns from a very young and tender age, my eternal fascination with the work of Sergio Leone and Ennio Morricone, and my desire to pay tribute to the shining geniuses that defined my childhood cosplay days, let me introduce to you what I consider to be il buono, il brutto e il cattivo of performance-based seismic design approaches. And like any good film, I am afraid you will have to read this paper to its conclusion to figure out which is which. I hope you enjoy it. منبع دانلود از پیوست vamva_prANIDIS2017_GoodBadUgy.pdf-

INVESTIGATING THE ROLE OF STRUCTURAL FACTORS IN THE PERFORMANCE OF SMES BY USING STRUCTURAL EQUATION

INVESTIGATING THE ROLE OF STRUCTURAL FACTORS IN THE PERFORMANCE OF SMES BY USING STRUCTURAL EQUATIONS TECHNIQUE ABSTRACT: Small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) have plenty of competitive advantages compared to large companies. They are more capable of being original and innovative, and due to their flexibility, they can respond better to environmental changes and satisfy their customers’ emerging needs. They also have more opportunities to redesign or alter and improve their management tools and information systems. Moreover, the employees can improve their expertise in novel fields. Due to the significance of SMEs in countries’ economies, a great number of studies and investigations have been conducted on them. According to the previous studies of the researcher and review of the literature, relying on the three-dimensional model, three groups of structural, content, and environmental factors were identified as the most important factors affecting the performance of SMEs in Semnan province in Iran. Nevertheless, owing to the wide area of research and also in order to achieve better results, this study has focused only on investigating the role of structural factors in the performance of SMEs in Semnan province. The research method used in this study in terms of target is applied and in terms of data collection is analytical. The method used for data analysis is the technique of structural equations of second rank factor analysis . The results of the research revealed that structural factors affect SMEs performance to the amount of 3.99. منبع دانلود INVESTIGATING THE ROLE OF.pdf-

PERFORMANCE OF WARM ASPHALT MIXTURE MODIFIED BY THE NEW ADDITIVE XU Zhoucong, LIU Liping, LI Di and JIANG Zilong Key Laboratory of Road and Traffic Engineering of the Ministry of Education, Tongji University, 4800 Cao’an Rd., Shanghai, 201804, China; email: xuzhoucong@163.com Abstract: Warm mix asphalt (WMA) has been increasingly applied in pavement project due to its environmentally friendly and low-carbon. Therefore, more and more WMA additives appeared on the market. In order to validate the new domestic warm mix additive’s pavement performance, in this paper, the new additive (A or made in China is added to the mixture (AC-13, AC-20), and the mixture’s pavement performance is tested. The test results show that, the mixing and compaction temperature of mixture could be decreased by 30~40℃ if additive A or B is used, it achieves the effect of energy saving and emission reduction. And the mixture’s performance indicators meet the requirement in current specification. In addition, compared with the corresponding HMA, the low temperature performance and fatigue performance of WMA containing additive A or B are improved Key Word: highway engineering, WMA mixture, the new additives, pavement performance, fatigue performance elearnica.ir-Performance_of_Warm_Asphalt_Mixture_Modified_by_New_Additives.pdf-

UNSTIFFENED STEEL PLATE SHEAR WALL PERFORMANCE UNDER CYCLIC LOADING

UNSTIFFENED STEEL PLATE SHEAR WALL PERFORMANCE UNDER CYCLIC LOADING By Adam S. Lubell,1 Helmut G. L. Prion,2 Carlos E. Ventura,3 Member, ASCE, and Mahmoud Rezai4 ABSTRACT: In the last few decades, steel plate shear walls have been introduced as primary lateral load resisting elements in several buildings around the world. This paper presents research from a study on the performance of unstiffened thin steel plate shear walls for medium- and high-rise buildings. In this concept, the postbuckling strength of the panels is relied upon for most of the frame shear resistance, similar to the slender web of a plate girder. Experimental testing was conducted on two single- and one four-story steel shear wall specimens, under cyclic quasi-static loading. Each specimen consisted of a single bay with column-to-column and floor-to-floor dimensions of 900 mm, representing a quarter-scale model of a typical office building core. Identification of load-deformation characteristics and the stresses induced in the structural components were the primary objectives of the testing program. Good energy dissipation and displacement ductility capacities were achieved. Primary inelastic damage modes included yielding of the infill plates combined with column yielding in the single-panel tests and yielding of the columns for the multistory frame. The experimental results were compared with simplified tension field analytical models, based on recommendations in the Canadian code for limit-states design of steel structures. The models, in general, provided good predictions of the postyield strength of the specimens, with less satisfactory results for elastic stiffness calculations. From the experimental and analytical results, the adequacy of existing design guidelines were assessed. ASCE_2998_0733-9445%282000%29126%3A4%28453%29.pdf-
