THE INCREMENTAL DYNAMIC ANALYSIS AND ITS APPLICATION TO PERFORMANCE-BASED EARTHQUAKE ENGINEERING Dimitrios Vamvatsikos1 and C. Allin Cornell2 1Graduate Student, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Stanford University, CA 94305-4020 2Professor, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Stanford University, CA 94305-4020 ABSTRACT Incremental Dynamic Analysis (IDA) is an emerging analysis method that offers thorough seismic demand and capacity prediction capability by using a series of nonlinear dynamic analyses under a multiply scaled suite of ground motion records. Realization of its opportunities requires several innovations, such as choosing suitable ground motion Intensity Measures (IMs) and representative Damage Measures (DMs). In addition, proper interpolation and summarization techniques for multiple records need to be employed, providing the means for estimating the probability distribution of the structural demand given the seismic intensity. Limit-states, such as the dynamic global system instability, can be naturally defined in the context of IDA, thus allowing annual rates of exceedance to be calculated. Finally, the data gathered through IDA can provide intuition for the behavior of structures and shed new light on the connection between the Static Pushover (SPO) and the dynamic response. To illustrate all the above concepts, a complete walkthrough of the methodology is presented by using a 9-storey steel moment-resisting frame with fracturing connections as an example to explain and clarify the application of the IDA to Performance-Based Earthquake Engineering (PBEE). Seismic Behavior of Direct Displacement-based Designed Eccentrically Braced Frames A. Mohebkhah* , S. Farahani Department of Civil Engineering Faculty of Civil and Architectural Engineering, Malayer University, Malayer, Iran Direct Displacement-Based Design (DDBD) is a performance-based seismic design method that has been proposed and well developed over the past two decades to design RC frame structures, shear walls and bridges. In this method, an equivalent single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) substitute structure is utilized to estimate seismic displacement demands of a multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) system. Although this method has been used to design the above mentioned structures, however, there is just one comprehensive DDBD method to design steel eccentrically braced frames (EBFs) in the literature. The purpose of this study is to investigate nonlinear seismic behavior of the DDB designed EBFs with short, intermediate and long link beams and estimate their seismic demands. To this end, twelve 3, 5, 9 and 12-story EBFs were designed using the proposed DDBD method. To simulate the nonlinear cyclic behavior of link beams, a macro-model proposed in the literature was adopted and validated with the available tests results. In order to describe material nonlinearity of the framing members in the macromodel, distributed plasticity fiber based model was used. After validating the FEM macro-modeling technique of link beams, seismic behavior of the 2D EBFs was investigated with nonlinear time-history analysis under a set of selected earthquake records using the structural analysis software OpenSees (ver. 2.4.0). The results showed that the DDB designed EBFs generally can reach their anticipated performance level. دانلود DDB Designed EBFs.pdf-

EVALUATION OF DIRECT-DISPLACEMENT BASED SEISMIC DESIGN METHOD FOR EBFs Amin MOHEBKHAH Assistant Professor of Structural Eng., Dept. of Civil Eng., Malayer University, Malayer, Iran amoheb@malayeru.ac.ir Sina FARAHANI M.Sc. Student of Structural Engineering, Dept. of Civil Eng., Malayer University, Malayer, Iran sina_farahani459@yahoo.com, sina.farahani@stu.malayeru.ac.ir Keywords: Direct displacement-based design, Steel eccentrically braced frame, Seismic behavior, Nonlinear dynamic analysis, Performance level Recent research in the field of earthquake engineering has seen the development of number of different displacementbased seismic design (DBD) methods. Such methods aim to overcome limitations with the force-based design methods incorporated in current codes. The most developed DBD method currently available is the Direct DBD approach, described and investigated in a text by Priestley et al. (2007). While the guidelines in the DDBD code have been relatively well tasted for RC structures, further verification and development is required for steel frame systems. There is just one comprehensive study can be found on DDBD of eccentrically braced frames (EBFs) which has been published recently by Sullivan (2013). The study presented by Sullivan (2013), has been focused of DDBD of EBFs with short (shear) link beams. Therefore, the aim of present study is to evaluate the ability of DDBD method for designing EBFs with intermediate and long link beams. To this end, three five-storey EBFs with short, intermediate and long link beams designed using the DDBD method proposed by Sullivan (2013). NONLINEAR DYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF THIN STEEL PLATE SHEAR WALLS S. SABOURI-GHOMI and T. M. ROBERTS School of Engineering, University of Wales College of Cardiff, Card8 CF2 IXH, U.K. (Received 21 February 1990) Abstract-A nonlinear analysis of the dynamic response of thin steel plate shear walls, with fixed beam to column connections, based on a finite difference solution of the governing differential equation of motion, is presented. The hysteretic characteristics of steel plate shear walls, incorporated in the analysis, include the influence of shear buckling and plastic yielding of the web plate and plastic yielding of the surrounding frame. The results presented validate the analysis for elastic response and demonstrate the effectiveness of the hysteretic characteristics in inhibiting resonance under periodic dynamic loading. sabourighomi1991.pdf-

Investigation of the link beam length of a coupled steel plate shear wall M. Gholhaki and M.B. Ghadaksaz Faculty of Civil Engineering, Semnan University, Semnan, P.O. Box 35195-363, Iran (Received January 19, 2015, Revised June 27, 2015, Accepted August 26, 2015) Abstract. Steel shear wall system has been used in recent years in tall buildings due to its appropriate behavior advantages such as stiffness, high strength, economic feasibility and high energy absorption capability. Coupled steel plate shear walls consist of two steel shear walls that are connected to each other by steel link beam at each floor level. In this article the frames of 3, 10, and 15 of (C-SPSW) floor with rigid connection were considered in three different lengths of 1.25, 2.5 and 3.75 meters and link beams with plastic section modulus of 100% to the panel beam at each floor level and analyzed using three pairs of accelerograms based on nonlinear dynamic analysis through ABAQUS software and then the performance of walls and link beams at base shear, drift, the period of structure, degree of coupling (DC) and dissipated energy evaluated. The results show that the (C-SPSW) system base shear increases with a decrease in the link beam length, and the drift, main period and dissipated energy of structure decreases. Also the link beam length has different effects on parameters of coupling degrees. COMPARISON OF THE PROGRESSIVE COLLAPSE RESISTANCE OF SEISMICALLY DESIGNED STEEL SHEAR WALL FRAMES AND SPECIAL STEEL MOMENT FRAMES M. R. Sheidaii and S. Jalili Abstract In this study, the progressive collapse potential of seismically designed steel plate shear wall (SPSW) systems is investigated using the alternate path method, and their performances are compared with those of the conventional special moment frame (SMF) systems. Nonlinear static and dynamic analyses are conducted to follow the progressive collapse of the structures, and their ability of absorbing the destructive effects of member loss is investigated. The obtained results show that when a corner or a middle column in the first story of the SPSWs is removed, the rest of the structure is not able to provide an appropriate alternative path for redistributing the generated loads caused by member loss, and therefore the structure presents a high potential for progressive collapse. However, by changing the lateral load resisting system of these buildings with the SMFs, the progressive collapse resisting capacity of the buildings increases significantly. 28-6-7.pdf-

Exploring the Efficiency of Dampers for Repair and Strengthening of Existing Buildings F. Barati; A. Esfandiari In this paper, seismic behavior of the existing buildings equipped by friction dampers is studied. Seismic performance of6-story, 9-story and 12-story steel buildings with damper and without damper were studied. The finite element modeling technique (SAP2000 Software) is used for analysis. Time History analyzing was done to achieve this purpose. For nonlinear dynamic analysis, the responses of the structures to three earthquake records (Tabas, Naghan, and artificial waveform) were obtained. A series of analyses were made to determine the optimum slip load of the friction dampers to achieve minimum response. Also, in order to evaluate the performance of the friction dampers in asymmetric structures, an asymmetric structure was utilized. The obtained results show significant improvement of seismic behavior and efficiency of the friction damper for seismic retrofitting to these buildings. منبع دانلود JSEG321354307400.pdf-
