The connection flexibility of frame joint not only changes the force and moment distribution, but also increases the lateral displacement and weakens the overall stability in SPSW structure. This paper presents the influence of hinged, rigid and semi-rigid connection joints on the behavior of SPSW structures. The bearing capacity, energy dissipation mechanism, failure mode, stress and deformation development process of the semi-rigid composite frame with steel plate shear walls under different stiffener forms were studied using experimental tests and finite element analysis. It was observed that with stiffeners the specimen yield load increased about 20% on the elastic stage, the ultimate bearing capacity of the diagonal stiffener was about 5% larger than the cross stiffener on the plastic stage, but the overall failure modes were basically the same. Additionally, the quantitative indications of the effect of joint stiffness on load carrying capacity were presented Thin-Walled Structures Volume 97, December 2015, Pages 53-62 guo2015.pdf

An evaluation of impressionableness structural systems under the condition of foundation and bed resistance Original Article, A7 Zare HR, Dehghani M. Journal. Civil Eng. Urban. 2(1): 49-52. 2011. ABSTRACT: The analysis of the structures under the influence of the earthquake load is usually done independent of the conditions and the soil variable under them. In other words, the bed of the structure location is supposed to be rigid. In these conditions seismic excitation in the bed of the structure is conducted in the form of a displacement with acceleration with time (or equivalent force). What happens in reality is that the structure is situated on the soil environment as a flexible bed, and from the view point of dimension as semi-infinite and earthquake vibrations from its source reach the foundation of the structure by passing from this environment which results in soil-structure interaction. The flexibility of the structure foundation and the emission of system energy by the waves in the infinite environment of soil (radiation depreciation) are two important results of soil-structure interaction phenomenon. One of the methods of considering the above-mentioned phenomenon in the analysis of the structure-supposing the elastic linear behavior of the soil environment-is by using SSI equivalents by which we have analyzed frame structures and shear wall frame structures under the earthquake load by considering SSI. By extraction of base shear amounts and displacement of the head of the structures under the influence of different earthquakes quantitative and different results have been obtained in a way that mentioned amounts strong dependence on the stiffness of the structure, stiffness of the soil, the kind of the earthquake ,etc. For this reason, the amount of the base shear and displacement in shear wall frame structures is more different from frame structure system in a way that these variations have twofold decrease or increase in a shear wall frame structure comparison with a frame structure system. This matter and the subsequent results reveal the necessity of paying attention to SSI in analysis and design of important structures from the view point of safety factor economic issues. Quasi-static cyclic tests on super-lightweight EPS concrete shear walls Seyed Amin Mousavi a,⇑, Seyed Mehdi Zahrai b,c, Asghar Bahrami-Rad d a School of Civil Engineering, University of Tehran, Tehran, Iran b Center of Excellence for Engineering and Management of Civil Infrastructures, School of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, The University of Tehran, Tehran, Iran c University of Ottawa, Ont., Canada d Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, AmirKabir University of Technology, Tehran, Iran a r t i c l e i n f o Article history: Received 13 May 2013 Revised 1 February 2014 Accepted 3 February 2014 Keywords: JK wall Lightweight concrete Low strength concrete EPS concrete Cyclic test Shear wall a b s t r a c t This study introduces a new emerging structural system, called JK system, which uses JK walls as its main structural elements. JK wall, first proposed by Joseph Kiefer, is a kind of shear wall constructed with lowstrength/ super-lightweight Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) concrete and reinforced by JK panel, JK stiffener and some additional steel rebars. The study experimentally examines behavior of three JK wall specimens with different reinforcement and level of gravity loads under quasi-static cyclic loading. Obtained results indicate that JK walls can sustain large ductility demands accompanied by stable hysteresis loops. All specimens are also numerically investigated in order to obtain a reliable analytical tool. In this paper, it is shown that a low-strength concrete, currently recognized as a nonstructural material, can be used as a structural concrete having a satisfactory behavior. Finally, a seven story building with JK system is considered to numerically study the above claim. However, more studies are still required to fully capture all short and long term features of structural EPS concrete elements. Effect of Corrosion on Pushover Performance of a Steel Plate Shear Wall Parham Memarzadeh, Raheleh Memarzadeh, Mortaza Davari Dolatabadi Abstract— In some areas with the probability of chemical attacks such as near the sea or oil refinery, steel plate shear walls (SPSWs) may be affected by corrosion and after a while gets loss of efficiency. In present study, the effect of web plate corrosion on pushover behavior of a single SPSW is investigated. For this purpose, experimental tests were conducted on SPSW specimen whose web plate corroded according to ASTM B117 and also on uncorroded specimen for comparison. The specimens were subjected to pushover loading and performances of the SPSWs were evaluated. The results show that the corrosion has a significant effect on the behavior of the SPSWs such as initial stiffness and shear capacity. NONLINEAR DYNAMIC RESPONSE AND DUCTILITY REQUIREMENTS OF A TYPICAL STEEL PLATE SHEAR WALL SUBJECTED TO EL CENTRO EARTHQUAKE* P. MEMARZADEH, M. M. SAADATPOUR AND M. AZHARI** Dept. of Civil Engineering, Isfahan University of Technology, Isfahan 8415683111, I. R. of Iran Email: mojtaba@cc.iut.ac.ir Abstract– In the present research, an explicit dynamic analysis is conducted on a typical multistorey Steel Plate Shear Wall (SPSW) designed according to AISC requirements. The SPSW model is subjected to a base earthquake acceleration record to simulate the time history response of the structure. The analysis utilizes a finite element method involving both material and geometric nonlinearities. The energy dissipation behavior and distribution of storey shear over height of the model are investigated through time history response of the system. In addition, this paper proposes a new definition of energy ductility, which can be used in the investigation of the dynamic response of SPSWs. The ductility demand based on the proposed definition as well as shear resistance contribution of the web plate and Vertical Boundary Elements (VBE) of SPSW are evaluated.
