    Experimental System Identification of a 63kV Substation Post Insulator and Developing its Fragility Curves by Dynamic Finite Element Analysis Mahmood Hosseini1 and Saman Mohammadpour2 1 Associate Professor at Structural Engineering Research Center, International Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology (IIEES), Tehran, Iran 2 Research Assistant in Structural Engineering Research Center, International Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology (IIEES), Tehran, Iran Abstract To have successful ‘emergency management’ in a community it is necessary to have very powerful management in normal conditions which is ready to face emergencies. To achieve this goal a thorough understanding of the existing potentials and know-hows is crucial, because at the time of crisis this data can be used to make the best possible decisions. Due to damage to electric substations in past earthquakes and the necessity to maintain their performance during and after the earthquake has made the investigation on substations’ vulnerability an essential issue. So at the beginning of this paper, a brief review of the damage to the high-voltage electricity substation insulators during previous earthquakes will be presented. As the seismic behavior of the different components of the electric substations have not been fully investigated so far, in the second part by using the results of the experiments conducted in the laboratory of the “International Institute of Seismology and Earthquake Engineering” detailed modeling of 63 KV insulator in finite element software is done in four separate parts and the segments are assembled in a situation quite similar to the actual conditions. The records of 69 earthquakes in 13 separate PGA categories were then entered in the model and the maximum stress created in the elements was obtained. Then, normal distribution curves were plotted for each of the PGA categories and the corresponding maximum stresses by using statistical relationships. The failure probability of each category will be achieved based on the failure criterion. Finally, the proper fragility curve will be plotted on the obtained failure probabilities. By the development of fragility curves for equipment in electricity industry, applicable results will be gained for this industry. Allin Cornell2 1Graduate Student, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Stanford University, CA 94305-4020 2Professor, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Stanford University, CA 94305-4020 ABSTRACT Incremental Dynamic Analysis (IDA) is an emerging analysis method that offers thorough seismic demand and capacity prediction capability by using a series of nonlinear dynamic analyses under a multiply scaled suite of ground motion records. Realization of its opportunities requires several innovations, such as choosing suitable ground motion Intensity Measures (IMs) and representative Damage Measures (DMs). In addition, proper interpolation and summarization techniques for multiple records need to be employed, providing the means for estimating the probability distribution of the structural demand given the seismic intensity. Limit-states, such as the dynamic global system instability, can be naturally defined in the context of IDA, thus allowing annual rates of exceedance to be calculated. Finally, the data gathered through IDA can provide intuition for the behavior of structures and shed new light on the connection between the Static Pushover (SPO) and the dynamic response. To illustrate all the above concepts, a complete walkthrough of the methodology is presented by using a 9-storey steel moment-resisting frame with fracturing connections as an example to explain and clarify the application of the IDA to Performance-Based Earthquake Engineering (PBEE).     Seismic vulnerability of existing buildings Kerstin Lang Institute of Structural Engineering Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich February 2002 Abstract In order to assess the seismic risk for Switzerland, and particularly for the city of Basel, a joint project on the subject of “Earthquake Scenarios for Switzerland” was launched by the Swiss Seismological Service (SED) and the Institute of Structural Engineering (IBK) at the ETH Zurich. The goals of the study are to improve the assessment of seismic hazard, to investigate the vulnerability of the built environment and finally, to combine the results to elaborate risk scenarios as the first fundamental step in the mitigation process. The objective of this work is the evaluation of the seismic vulnerability of existing buildings with a focus on the residential building stock in the city of Basel. Since no major damaging earthquake has occurred in Switzerland in recent times, vulnerability functions from observed damage patterns are not available. A simple evaluation method based on engineering models of the building structures suitable for the evaluation of a larger number of buildings is therefore proposed. First, the general idea of the evaluation method based on nonlinear static procedures is introduced in Chapter 3 which briefly discusses the two key elements of a vulnerability analysis, the capacity (strength and deformation capacity) of a building and the seismic demand. The results are vulnerability functions expressing the expected damage of a building as a function of the seismic input. The application of the evaluation method to unreinforced masonry buildings and to reinforced concrete buildings is discussed in more detail in Chapters 4 and 5 respectively. Special attention is paid to the frame action due to the coupling of the walls by floors and spandrels. Comparisons with test results from model buildings in the case of masonry buildings and with a recently proposed and thoroughly checked deformation orientated method in the case of reinforced concrete buildings show that the proposed method suitably forecasts the capacity of a building. Finally, a comprehensive inventory of the buildings in a small target area in Basel was established based on plans and a street survey. The inventory comprised a total number of 87 buildings which were then assessed using the evaluation method. Based on the results of the assessment, building classes were defined depending on the type of structure and the number of storeys. Corresponding fragility curves were determined, expressing the probability of a building belonging to a certain building class of reaching or exceeding a particular damage grade given a deterministic estimate of the spectral displacement. The classification of the buildings allows an extrapolation of the results to a larger area or to the whole city. A statement on the actual seismic risk, however, is not possible without the knowledge of the local seismic hazard which is not yet available. دانلود منبع Untitled.pdf
