Civil Eng. Urban., 5(2): 108-115, 2015; pii:S225204301500019-5 Abstract Nowadays, transportation and traffic are the key issues in urban and regional studies. Throughout history, road transportation had a significant role on the development of cities. Transportation industry, especially road transportation, can be seen as a driving force for the development. Efficacy and capabilities of road transportation is the base of sustainable development. Then, the aim of the present study is to emphasize the need for the use of road transportation in urban development. The study used analytical method of the study and library and field studies were used to collect data. First strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of road transportation and urban development were determined using SWOT analysis and then the solutions were discussed. The results showed that the final solution is to promote the development of tourist spots, mines, agriculture and animal husbandry. This is an offensive strategy based on the strengths using the available opportunities and promoting road transportation network, which makes sustainable development possible. Urban. 3(4):221-224. 2013 ABSTRACT:Cities are physical structures that have been built in the heart of nature by human beings. The growth rate of urbanization has been increased after the industrial revolution and urban sprawls are considered some kind of invasion of natural spaces around the city. Currently converting natural areas to urban residential spaces and urban application, conversion of natural forests to agricultural land and villa construction and road building, uncontrolled growth of consumer industries, pollution of water sources, increased artificial uses of the Earth and environmental pollution, have caused a lot of damages to normal appearance of the Earth and continuation of this trend can cause the interaction of nature and consequently make life of current and future generation face to face with danger. Environment as a development platform has an important role in the development of the cities and healthy environment and sustainable ecosystems not only provide necessary platform in development process but also, the appropriate environment for human being to live in and his appropriate participation in the process of human development. Therefore any operation of the nature to construct and develop the cities should take place after evaluation of the resources and regarding the capacities of the natural environment. No city enjoys being completely prepared to guarantee its future sustainability and environmental requirements, force urban planners to observe the requirements of sustainable development. Accordingly, they should organize urban system and modes of production and methods of urban life such that urban development moves towards environmental sustainability. In sustainable urban development the subject of conservation of the natural resources for the present and future through optimal use of the land and causing the least damages to its resources are considered. The evaluation of the geo-tourism for urban development: A case study in Ajabshir city, Iran Original Article, B15 Tavallaei S, Rashidi Ebrahim Hesari A, Fathi MH, Farzaneh M, Mousavi SCh. Journal. Civil Eng. Urban. 2(2): 80-85. 2012. ABSTRACT: Tourism development based on natural and geo-tourism attractions have been among the study targets of urban regional planners during past decades. It is obvious that Feasibility studies as well as the evaluation of urban tourism potentials are being considered as first phase of tourism planning. The major objective of this study is to investigate the geo-tourism capabilities and limitations of Ajabshir city and to develop the best strategy toward improving and enhancing tourism management and development for the city in this region. For this purpose, SWOT strategy planning method was used based on identification of weaknesses and strengths points (internal factors) and opportunities and threats (external factors). Furthermore, Likert spectrum was used to rank the internal and external factors in order to come up with SO, WO, ST, WT strategies. The study suggests that the region has a high potential regarding tourist attraction. The internal factors of this study (point3.05) indicate that the strength points of the region are more than the weakness points. In addition, the matrix of the evaluation of the external factors (point2.72) shows that the opportunities of the region are more than its threats. It further argues that the macro strategies the tourism of the region and thus this city must be developed in such a way to make the best use of the local possible opportunities. This study further suggests that by taking advantage of Ajabshir's tourism potential in general and Geo tourism attractions in particular, along with adaption of an appropriate tourism strategies, the city could well utilizes these opportunities.
