  3. The Relationship between Urban Sidewalks Design and Psychological Sense of Security. Zarghami E., AzhdehFar Sh., Toodeh Fallah S. J. Civil Eng. Urban., 5(3): 134-143, 2015; pii:S225204301500023-5 Abstract One of the basic and important concepts in sustainable development is taking human needs into consideration and meeting them. Security is one of the most basic human needs, which in effect will lead to progress. Urban traffic is one the causes that put a psychological pressure on people and threatens the psychological sense of security. Today the fact that many people don’t use the sidewalks in streets and alleys is a constant psychological pressure both for the pedestrians and for the drivers. Studies show that such constant pressures can lead to serious psychological and mental problems. There are many reasons as to why people avoid using sidewalks for example poor flooring, uneven surfaces, natural and artificial obstacles, the disproportionate width of the sidewalks in comparison to the crossings, failure to take into account the human scale and the importance of viewing angle and the issues of visual perception and so on. In this article this issue is viewed from the pedestrian view and guidelines to solving this problem are researched. To this matter the method of research is combinatorial investigation. The results of the survey showed, that in short distances people over the age of 40 show more interest in a stroll than people under the age of 40. The superficial beauty of sidewalks was evaluated of much importance to both groups. The issue of uneven surfaces was the first priority for the group of over 40 and for the people under the age of 40 the problem that took priority was the width of sidewalks. Taking into consideration the results of both the descriptive and survey research the comfort level of pedestrian pathways were researched and presented. Urban., 5(3): 123-130, 2015; pii:S225204301500021-5 Abstract Natural disasters, bring casualties and financial loss every year around the world. This issue of defense and disaster preparedness is seen as part of the meaning of passive defense. Although places like “Crisis Management Centers” has been greatly helpful in disaster preparedness for authorities, but it did not work in the field of general education. Increasing of disastrous events, blood and mayhem have produced a group of museums whose main purpose is the exhibition of such disasters and memorialisation of their victims. All disaster museums, it seems, based on their locations, aim at contributing to preventing disasters and informing about risks that threaten our global cultural heritage, both material and intangible. The key for museums is to draw the line between entertainment and education: in any case, between museum building forms and spaces. The main problem with these sites is that how and in what way these museums can be effective on disaster awareness in every society. The importance of this issue causes to build many of these buildings in disaster sites. With various programs, trying to inform people in this field. Research Methods In This paper, is “content analysis” and “case study”, and review of the documents and their content and criticise of architecture and specific programs of these buildings have been trying to get acceptable results in this study. 9. Historical Study on Gender Identity in Forming Social and Architectural Space: Northern Cities of Iran in Qajar Era Varmaghani H, Soltanzadeh H, Tahaee S.A. J. Civil Eng. Urban., 5(2): 102-107, 2015; pii:S225204301500018-5 Abstract Due to some ambiguities in defining the domain of gendered space in traditional cities and gaps in the knowledge related to the northern cities in the Qajar Era, this paper examines the conception of the public and private domain in Gillan and Mazandaran cities. We delineate the intricacies of how people of northern Iran conceptualized the public and private domain, and specifically how females have experienced these domains, with regard to the common view of “gendered space”. We also describe the role of women and their relationship to space outside of kinship ties. The paper concludes that the northern context to some extent was different from other Iranian traditional contexts, due to the environmental circumstances and livelihood causing the different status of northern women. Therefore these conditions led to a kind of soft boundary between the two realms of public and private life and, thus, allowed the possibility of women’s negotiation with public domain more than in other traditional cultures. 14. Ecological Design Process, the Way Toward Improve Modern Sustainable Architectural Design. Feizi M., Ahmadi J., Ahmadi M. J. Civil Eng. Urban., 5(2): 77-82, 2015; pii:S225204301500014-5 Abstract Nowadays the main question of designers is about the consequences of their activities on the natural environment that how should be designed the built environment which not to destroy nature. Due to energy and environmental crisis conditions of present age, it is essential that instead of imitating the techniques of sustainable architecture, to be dealt with a more radical and looked for answer not in the design itself but in the point of view to that. The reason of existing architecture instability Can be connected to the lack of designer’s sufficient knowledge of the current situation, inability to categorize and organize their vast architectural information and field of design with the principles of sustainability. The problem could be related to deficiency of a specific design process and lock of holistic and sustainable design approach by the designers. The appropriate design in educational or in commercial architecture requires accurate and systematic process from beginning to the end. The main question of this research that is a logical argument with qualitative- interpretation approach using by library is how could specify the path of the design and promote the theoretical foundation step by step in order to develop suitable architecture. The main assumption in this research is how the design principles is more accurate and predetermined consequently the results is more desirable. Such principles could be found in ecological design. The objective of this work is the present a procedure of modern sustainable architectural design with the title of ecological design which has been introduced by Malaysian architecture Ken-Yeang. Based on the mentioned method, the process of design was presented in form of a table to make the designer to be capable to the accurate and classified design. Urban., 5(2): 63-68, 2015; pii:S225204301500012-5 Abstract The city is perfectly a living organism that has been changing. An urban space element of city that will be modified after it changed. The main street of the city is an urban space that in addition provides people's requirement, represents specific culture of city, too. The Imam Khomeini's street as a main street is responsible for this task, but yet it involves in space and physical disturbance. The main purpose of this study is to analyze the Imam Khomeini pavement to identifying problems and providing a solution to solve them. In first leg, we have studied library references to identify the issue and area and utilized field and observation research methods for exact recognize of area. At the end, according to our given information of theoretical foundation, analyze the location and along with recognizing strength and weakness points, present solution to solve an area's problems. We have achieved an important point of this analysis: placement fountain on the center of Saat square is a strength point that due to create more space confinement. One of the weaknesses points problems of pavements, and roadway’s floor can haven't been suitable face, and they are unusable by traffic, and the pavements are unsuitable for blind people. None of the pavement's elements are coordinated with an urban space's requirement. The pedestrian line should design for any kind of movement, but it made to only pass an act. Placement BRT station in this area cannot be accountable for passing traffic, although the placement trees' location is suitable, but due to placement of furniture caused disturbance. However, this area hasn't been specific placement for furniture, and ditch cannot be accountable for visual and performance requirements, too. Therefore, the weakness points can be a removable and improvement roadway, and pedestrian floor can improve the performance and beauty of the street, and also ordering floor's elements that can be accountable for visual and performance requirements. 22. Slope Stability Analysis by Shear Strength Reduction Method. Farshidfar N., Nayeri A. J. Civil Eng. Urban., 5(1): 35-37, 2015; pii:S22520430150008-5 Abstract This research uses the shear strength reduction method to study soil slopes stability. In this method shear strength is considered to be reduced as less as failure occurs. It uses Plaxis, which is capable of calculating deformations rates and safety factors by gaining geometry data of a problem and soil specifications and using the finite element method (FEM). The analysis is performed at both static and pseudo-static modes. The effects of different parameters on slopes stability are shown by performing several analyses. Finally, the analyses performed by this method are compared with the ones obtained by finite difference method (FDM). 23. Experimental and Numerical Study of the Effect of PET Recycling Admixtures on Pore Water Pressure and Output Discharge in Homogeneous Earth Dams. Ahmad Zadeh Touri R., Pourbakhshian S., Pouraminian M. J. Civil Eng. Urban., 5(1): 31-34, 2015; pii:S225204301500007-5 Abstract This study analytically and experimentally investigates the leakage in homogenous earth dam (clay) reinforced by recycled PET. First, the effect of PET addition on permeability of clay in geotechnical laboratory is evaluated, according to the results of first step, a physical model of homogenous earth dam is prepared in laboratory flume, both in PETs or without PETs and measured the water height in dam body using piezometers installed on flume body and also leakage discharge was calculated. Third, phreatic line formed in the body of dam and the pore pressure of it was analyzed regarding the first and second phases. The impact of output discharge reduction on dam stability was also studied in software; PET addition impact on output discharge reduction was 23.14%. Discharge reduction lead to increase of dam stability. Keywords: Homogenous Earth Dam, Permeability Test, Physical Model, PLAXIS, PET [Full text-PDF] منبع: [Hidden Content] J. Civil Eng. 24. Evaluation of the Vibrational Properties of Three-Span Continuous Concrete Bridge by Dynamic Finite Element Method. Pouraminian M., Amarlou M., Pourbakhshian S., Khodayari R. J. Civil Eng. Urban., 5(1): 27-30, 2015; pii:S225204301500006-5 Abstract This study follows two objectives: first, determining the effect of defining master dynamic degrees of freedom on vibrational properties and increase structure analysis running speed, and second, estimation of response accuracy and vibrational properties of simplified dynamic finite element model of the bridge by one-dimensional elements and lump masses. After designing simplified model of bridge with nine lump masses, the estimation error rate in dominated period of the structure is examined in both accurate model and lump mass. The mass and stiffness matrices derived from analysis of ANSYS software are also shown. The responses of accurate and simplified models are studied, and it was observed that the simplified finite element model has reasonable estimation of vibrational properties of the bridge. 25. Internal Development, a Strategy for Revitalization of Urban Distressed Areas: Distressed Areas of Zanjan City (Case Study). Meshkini A., Ahadnezhad Rooshti M., Heydari T. J. Civil Eng. Urban., 5(1): 22-26, 2015; pii:S225204301500005-5 Abstract The urban population growth has a long history in Iran. Because of increase in population and the massive immigrations to the towns, the possibility of detailed planning for achieving the different needs of employment, accommodation, education, and health has been decreased. Therefore, the indiscriminate and uncontrolled expansion of cities has led to damage to the urban fabric in terms of spatial coherence and appropriate distribution of services. Nowadays, given the importance of conserving natural resources and reducing the environmental effects of uncontrolled urban development, internal development has been proposed as an approach to urban planning. However, this study aimed to enhance the productivity, optimize the urban land uses, and make possible the internal development of urban distressed areas in Zanjan province in order to meet the needs of the city and prevent from physical unbalanced development. For this purpose, library resources, documents, and field reviews was studied to investigate the internal development in this urban distressed areas of Zanjan province. The results of developed pattern for internal development of urban distressed areas showed valuable results about the expandable lands of these areas (2,054 pieces, 822,895.5 square meters, or 82 hectares). In addition to meeting the needs of current applications, it would be effective in creating continuity between adjacent areas and would prevent the physical development of Zanjan province.
